The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has been one of the movers of the Ethiopian economy for the past 66 years. No other strong bank existed in the country when CBE was officially launched in 1942.

CBE did pioneer the introduction of modern banking services in the country. In the long years of its market existence, CBE has attained the following:

Currently, CBE takes the lion's share of the commercial banking market of the country in terms of credit, deposit, customer base and branch network. The bank is also starting up a new subsidiary branch office abroad - Southern Sudan, Juba. This brings the number of total branch outreach to 208.

Furthermore, it is CBE's commitment to enhance its role in supporting the national development endeavors of the country through efficient and effective financial intermediation and unparalleled customers' satisfaction; and to this end, would employ highly motivated, skilled and disciplined staff who are capable of providing quality banking products.

The future is more promising due to the fact that the bank has implemented newly redesigned core and support processes that are believed to attract and retain more satisfied customers. CBE is also increasingly building the technical and managerial capabilities of its employees who are entrusted to drive it to the next millennium with all its reputations.
